April 4, 2025 Dear Parents/Guardians, We would like to inform you about our updated school procedures regarding daily student screening upon arrival and some additional guidelines to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of all students and staff. Our commitment to students, staff, parents, and the community at Roy Johnson STEM Academy continues to prioritize safety. As always, we appreciate your support in helping us keep students and staff safe at school. Daily Screening Upon Arrival All students will continue to undergo a screening process upon arrival at school. Bag and Item Screening Students will continue to be screened for prohibited objects in their pockets, purses, gym bags, and backpacks. Belts must be removed before passing through the metal detectors, as the buckles may trigger alarms. Contraband/Prohibited Items Policy If a student is found in possession of contraband, weapons, drugs, or alcohol, the consequences outlined in the Student Code of Conduct will be enforced. Metal Detector Alarm Procedure If the metal detector alarm sounds, the student will have an opportunity to empty the area in question and be re-scanned. Open Bottle/Cup Policy Students carrying open bottles or cups must throw them away—no exceptions for safety. Stanley Cups (or similar types of containers) must be empty of liquid before entering. They may contain ice, but no liquid. The cup will need to be open to be inspected. All bottles must be factory sealed—water bottles, sports drinks, juices, and fast food drinks. It is highly recommended that all open bottles and/or fast food drinks be finished prior to arriving on campus. Food and Snack Guidelines No homemade or baked goods will be permitted to be shared or handed out. Individually wrapped snacks and/or individual-sized chip bags are acceptable for personal consumption only. Snack size should not exceed what is considered a single-serve portion. Refusal to Cooperate If a student refuses to cooperate with the screening process, they will be denied access to the building. The student will not be allowed to return to school on the same day. A meeting with the campus administrator, along with the parent and student, will be required before the student can return. Entry Process After Screening After screening, students will proceed to their assigned areas to begin their school day. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue to create a safe and secure environment for all of our students.
