Counseling Department Design

The counseling department’s plan is based on the Texas Education Agency’s Model of Counseling. This comprehensive model has four components; guidance, responsive services, individual student planning, and system support.  Everman ISD’s counseling program complies with SB 179, which means that 80% of the counselor’s time is spent on the four components.

In EISD, we support and promote our students’ social and emotional health by focusing on five educational and human development areas. These five areas are self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

Everman ISD follows Senate Bill 2050, which addresses anti-bullying measures and requires districts to annually conduct student surveys regarding bullying and cyberbullying and use the data to make future decisions.

Everman ISD will teach character education as required in Senate Bill 11. The character traits in the Senate Bill are:

  • · Courage
  • · Trustworthiness, including honesty, reliability, punctuality, and loyalty
  • · Integrity
  • · Respect and courtesy
  • · Responsibility, including accountability, diligence, perseverance, and self-control
  • · Fairness, including justice and freedom from prejudice
  • · Caring, including kindness, empathy, compassion, consideration, patience, generosity, and charity
  • · Good citizenship, including patriotism, concern for the common good and the community, and respect for authority and the law
  • · School pride
  • · Gratitude

It is important to note that Senate Bill 11 mandates school districts to teach character education to all students.

EISD provides training for mental health as required by the 87th legislative session; this includes mental health conditions, substance abuse, skills to manage emotions, establishing and maintaining positive relationships, responsible decision making, and suicide prevention, including recognizing suicide-related risk factors and warning signs. Our program aligns with House Bill 3597 (Crisis Intervention), Senate Bill 1267 (Trauma-informed Care), Senate Bill 279 (Mental Health), and House Bill 3370 (Child Abuse).
